WILL OUR MARCH WATER OUR SPRING?

Chris Oledude sharing a moment with old friend and fellow music lover Janine da Silva at the Black Rock Coalition’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

Women’s History Is Human History

Every day, I am astounded by my own ignorance when it comes to the power and achievements of woman throughout human history.

Just as the stories of people who did not look like the European royal families have been relegated to either “the exotic” or “the insignificant”, so have the stories of the more than 50% of human beings who are not male been trivialized and buried.

The fantastical Garden of Eden and imaginative miracles featuring men have replaced the spiritual and philosophical realities of our mothers, grandmothers all the way back to the grandmothers, sisters, aunts and lovers of great-great-great-great-great-great grandmothers and before.

Brooklyn’s Kiena Williams and Chris Oledude are the lead vocalists on “If A Woman Had Made The World”

My song, IF A WOMAN HAD MADE THE WORLD, asks that core question:

Would we not define humanity in a very different way if testosterone had not triumphed through socially manipulative tools such as patriarchic religions and capitalism?

As we bear witness to more bombings every day, more mass shootings every day, psychological and physical abuses of women and children every day, including more evidence of sexual slavery perpetrated by the oligarchs, is it not worth discussing what might have been different and what might yet be different?

So, I hope you join me on Sunday, March 15th, 12:30 PM, at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture (269 4th Ave, 11215) to hear from an old friend and neighbor,

Muriel Tillinghast, former SNCC project director in Mississippi

Sister Tillinghast is one of the “Women You Need To Know”! (CLICK HERE FOR FULL INFORMATION).

Accompanied by my friend, Barry Kornhauser, I will be providing some “unplugged” renditions of my original works.

Spring is around the corner. Another season of new life is upon us, but we have yet to shake off the weight and stench of the deadly winter.

It is so sad and outrageous that the melting of ice means much more to us today than the natural conversion of water from solid to liquid.

It is so sad and outrageous that the male-dominated eco-political leaders in this world do not merely allow, but encourage, international relationships to remain frigid and brittle to the point where the word “thaw” is meaningless.

But the phrase “heated” clearly conveys the temperature of exploding bombs and repeated bursts of gunfire that quickly and decisively vaporize the frigid and shatter the brittle.

But we are standing up and marching and singing — again and again — in more and more places across these United States and in other nations as well.

We will not surrender our freedoms to fascists! We will not allow fear, conflicts and violence to be used in stoking more fears, creating new conflicts and perpetuating more violence.

I do not need to hate insecure, fearful, and greedy men to stop them. I just need to heal … and heal again … and heal some more … and keep standing up to them. This is where the power of music makes itself known to all!

On Saturday, March 28th, the next NO KINGS marches will be taking place and we all need to be out in the streets! (Which is not to say that we don’t also need to be out for other purposes as well!) The fetid and infected would-be king AND his minions must all be called out and held accountable for their actions and abuses.

Trumpocracy must be scorched away in every part of this nation in order for healing and a true Springtime to return.

Leading up to this next great march, there are many cultural events that will help to heal, inspire and motivate you! KEEP SCROLLING! :)

This Saturday and Sunday there are two excellent concerts — one at the Peoples’ Voice Cafe and one at the Idaho bar. Then there will be more great shows to take in!

Come join us on March 23rd!

No cover charge, great music and great food!

This is the re-scheduled version of the show originally planned for February 23rd — the night after the monster snowstorm!!!

I am thrilled and honored to share the stage with my people’s music network colleagues: the hysterical and dynamic Joel Landy, the exciting Nikki Nesbary, the inspiring David Tarlo, and my Oledude Ensemble mates: Barbara Frankel on flute, Barry Kornhauser on cello, Jonathan Finkelman on bass, and Baba Don Eaton on percussion!

I will be presenting a new song!

Seating is limited, but the good vibes are infinite! No cover charge! Free merchandise!

Special thanks to the event producer, impresario Ruben Gonzalez!!!

WE WILL NOT LET THE FASCISTS WIN!

I have released a 58-minute album of music I am proud of. I am already using this collection of 11 works as a tool of relaxation and remembrance, and as a tool to recapture and refocus “joy” as an act of resistance!  Music is the expression of our hopes and dreams. It’s time to dance, play and sing!
